Retiring from service to Valparaiso University? You may have questions about what happens to your accounts and access.

Question:
Do I get to keep my IT accounts?

Answer:
If you've achieved retiree status, you may be allowed to retain access to your accounts.

Question:
What criteria do I have to meet in order to achieve retiree status?

Answer:
According to Human Resource Services, the criteria are:

  • Staff or faculty are 60 years old and completed 10 years or more of service, or under 60 with 25 years of service; or
  • Faculty are eligible for early retirement as defined by the faculty handbook.

Questions about eligibility should be directed to Human Resource Services.

Question:
Will my username or email address change?

Answer:
If you are granted ongoing computing access, then your username and email address should not change.

You may wish to reference the Google account policy available through General Counsel's office for more specific information about your Gmail@Valpo account.

Question:
What computing access is included?

Answer:
Your ongoing ValpoNet computing access will include the AMS (to maintain your password), Gmail@Valpo, and Active Directory (campus network).

Faculty may retain their H: drives; staff generally do not retain their H: drives.

Access to other IT systems and services such as Blackboard Learn, DataVU, VPN, campus printing, etc., do not continue unless you retain an active employee status.

Question:
What about other non-IT benefits?

Answer:
Contact Human Resource Services for answers to questions not related to IT account access for retirees.
